Getting started

What is a corporate carbon footprint, and why measure it?

It is the total greenhouse gas an organization's activities emit over a period (typically one year) — the "footprint" your organization leaves on the climate.

Why measure: (1) laws increasingly mandate disclosure (2) major customers request carbon data across their supply chain (3) investors use it for ESG assessment (4) it reveals where energy is being wasted, cutting real costs — what gets measured gets managed.

What does GCarbon do — do I have to calculate anything myself?

The system covers the full loop: record carbon-emitting activities → calculate CO₂e automatically per the standards → report as documents ready for regulators, executives and verifiers.

You never calculate by hand — just enter "what you used and how much" (e.g. 1,000 kWh of electricity). The system picks the right emission factor, multiplies it for you, and cites the source of every number.

What is an Emission Factor (EF), in plain language?

An EF works like an exchange rate — a multiplier that converts "amount used" into carbon.

Example: 1,000 kWh of electricity × EF 0.4999 kgCO₂e/kWh ≈ 500 kg CO₂e.

You only enter the 1,000 kWh — the system selects the factor from TGO / DEFRA / IPCC libraries, with source and version attached to every value so verifiers can always trace it.

What do I do on first use?

Five steps:

  1. Log in with the account you received — permissions follow your role
  2. Add activity data one by one, or bulk-import via CSV/Excel
  3. Review the dashboard — total emissions by Scope with automatic suggestions
  4. Set reduction targets and track progress
  5. Generate and export reports for the standards you need

Every screen has an ⓘ button explaining each value — no memorizing jargon, and the in-app G-CHAT assistant answers from the actual manual.

Recording data

What is the difference between Scope 1 / 2 / 3?
  • Scope 1 — direct emissions from what you burn/use yourself: company vehicles, machinery, boilers, refrigerant leaks, septic tanks
  • Scope 2 — purchased energy, mainly electricity (from your monthly bills)
  • Scope 3 — other indirect emissions across the value chain: commuting, procurement, transport, waste — 15 categories

In year one, get Scope 1–2 solid first (the documents already exist), then expand into Scope 3 by materiality.

We have a lot of data — do we key it in one by one?

No — there are three paths:

  1. Manual entry via smart forms (with a calculation preview before saving)
  2. CSV / Excel import in bulk, with row-level error reporting
  3. Automatic feeds — ERP systems push via API, or IoT meters stream electricity readings near-real-time

Every path shares the same calculation logic, so figures never diverge by input channel.

Can we correct figures retroactively — will the verifier know?

Yes you can — and the system is deliberately transparent to verifiers:

  • Every edit lands in an immutable audit trail (who, what, when, before/after values)
  • If the entry was already verified, its status automatically rolls back to "pending review" — making silent post-sign-off changes impossible

This transparency is exactly why verifiers trust system figures over spreadsheets.

Reports & standards

What reports can the system produce?

Ten report families from one dataset: TGO CFO Version 04 (forms Fr-01–05 + a submission-ready Workbook), per-campus reports, monthly intensity, GRI 305, SBTi, TCFD, CDP, 56-1 One Report, tax documentation, plus a Readiness Engine that runs 13 completeness checks before every export.

Output files: XLSX (streams 100,000+ rows), CSV and PDF.

What do we prepare in the system to file with TGO?

A one-time setup: organization profile, organizational boundary (Equity Share / Financial Control / Operational Control per ISO 14064-1), your verifier's name, and uploads of the Boundary Diagram + Org Chart.

Then, once the year's data is in, export the CFO Package — the system generates forms Fr-01 through Fr-05 with figures that reconcile across every form, and the Readiness check tells you beforehand if anything is missing.

Security & operations

Where does our data live — how secure is it?

The platform is multi-tenant with complete data isolation between organizations. Access is role-based (ADMIN / MANAGER / VIEWER / AUDITOR) and scoped by organizational unit — a site manager sees only their site.

Every action is audit-logged, the design complies with PDPA, and the G-CHAT assistant processes questions in-system without sending text to any external service.

Can external verifiers work inside the system?

Yes — create an AUDITOR account for them, which is read-only across the entire system (enforced by central middleware, so nothing can be modified).

Verifiers get a data room gathering every piece of evidence, full traceability of every emission factor, and can pull the IMP pack + ISO 14064-3 verification statement themselves — cutting audit time substantially.
